When Caelan was 3 months, I could no longer keep up with his appetite. It was non stop breastfeeding and it was starting to get to both of us... he was constantly hungry and I knew there had to be more to do with a 3 month old baby than feed him!
Because of the dehydration Caelan had at 3 days old, he was no stranger to formula... they made us 'top him up' after breastfeeding until he had put on a bit of weight and was no longer dehydrated when we were at the hospital. This was linked to him having what ended up being 'prolonged jaundice' and sleeping through his feeds in those early days.
When we started formula feeding it was like all his Christmases had come at once! He loved formula and couldn't get enough... I remember the first few times I took him to get weighed after starting him on the formula - he went from the 9th percentile to the 25th to the 50th to the 91st! The midwives were asking if I was feeding him steak and chips and called him a bruiser! I'm sure it was all good natured, but I didn't want to take him to get weighed anymore! When I finally did 8 weeks later he was in the 98th percentile... really only 2% of baby boys out there weigh more than him?!?! Hmmm...
The good news is that he has held steady in the 98th percentile for the last 4 weigh ins! He has only gained 1 pound in the last 6 weeks! Fantastic news! He eats REALLY well and still has his 3 bottles a day, so I think all the moving he is doing is helping him maintain his weight.
All in all, I'm just glad he's healthy and doesn't have any issues with not wanting to eat! Somehow, I think that would be worse...
