Eye Appointment & Taking Strange

When Caelan was born, he had a 'sticky eye' that had lots of yellow/green stuff coming out of it. It seemed like we were constantly boiling the kettle, letting the water cool and wiping it with a sterile cotton pad... We went to A&E, he was given drops - nothing seemed to work! We were told it was most likely a blocked tear duct and there was nothing they could do until he was 6 months. So we carried on with our routine of boiling the kettle, letting the water cool and wiping it with a sterile cotton pad... Then one day he just woke up and it had cleared up on its own! He was around 4 1/2 months then. We were so happy, but obviously still took great care washing his eyes. Unfortunately, about a month later it came back. More drops, more boiling the kettle, letting the water cool and wiping it with a sterile cotton pad...So once he got to 6 months I made an appointment to get him referred to a specialist. Wouldn't you know about a week later it cleared up! The doctor told me to keep the appointment anyway, so yesterday we went to see the specialist at the hospital. I was all geared up for the couple hour appointment they had warned me about, but as soon as we sat down she said there was nothing she could do as there were no symptoms present! She had a look with the light and said it looked good and sent us on our way! I felt like a complete tool... I know the pressure the NHS is under and I feel like a time waster! I guess on the bright side we know it looks clear and fingers crossed he'll have no more 'sticky eye'!

We were lucky that David dropped us off at the hospital, but we had to get the bus back home. If you have ever tried to get a bus in London when the secondary school kids are on their way home from school, you will be able to relate to this... The only word I can use to describe it, is CHAOS! There are teenagers everywhere and the majority have no respect for other passengers whatsoever! Although Caelan seemed quite intrigued with all the activity, I couldn't help but find myself saying things like 'watch out' 'be careful' etc You can imagine my relief when a sensible looking lady came and stood by the buggy. I though how fantastic, I won't have to worry about her knocking the buggy, falling on top of Caelan etc. She even started smiling and chatting with him, how lovely! Well, let me tell you, Caelan did not agree! I could see the bottom lip starting to go, so I tried to tickle his feet to stop the tears I knew were coming. Too late! He started crying and screaming as is she had done something extremely horrible to him... She looked mortified! All I could do was say sorry and dig out Caelan's Freddie the Firefly toy to save the day! Maybe the teenagers weren't so bad after all...

  2. Great news about his eye clearing up on its own. I can relate to the taking strange. No matter how nice our neighbors are to Ellie, she stops in her tracks when we pass their house and they are out. Usually hides behind my leg and bites her bottom lip trying to stop herself from crying. Yet, the little girl I babysit can sometimes be extremely impatient with her, but Ellie just loves her to pieces and doesn't seem to mind at all that she often gets brushed aside and ignored by her!

  3. Thanks, we are also pleased about his eye. Poor Ellie! It's funny isn't it though, wonder what they are thinking?
